Lumbar spondylosis

Lumbar spondylosis, also known as lumbar osteoarthritis, is a degenerative condition that affects the lower back region of the spine. It occurs when the discs in the lumbar spine lose their flexibility and may begin to dry out, causing them to shrink and become less effective at cushioning the vertebrae. This can lead to the development of bone spurs and other changes in the structure of the lumbar spine.

Symptoms

The main symptoms of lumbar spondylosis include low back pain and stiffness, as well as tingling or numbness in the legs and feet. In some cases, weakness in the legs may also be present. Symptoms may worsen with activities that involve bending or twisting the back, or with prolonged periods of sitting or standing.

Causes

The primary cause of lumbar spondylosis is aging, as the discs in the lumbar spine undergo wear and tear over time. Other factors that can contribute to the development of lumbar spondylosis include injury or trauma to the back, poor posture, and repetitive strain on the back muscles.
